CARING FOR THE ELDERLY & DISABLED

Elderly & Disabled Support: Honoring Lives with Dignity and Care

At Impact 907, we are committed to enhancing the quality of life for older adults and individuals with disabilities across the Pacific Northwest. Our mission is to provide opportunities for comprehensive support that promotes independance, ensures availability of essential resources, and foster healthy communities where everyone can thrive.

Addressing Regional Challenges

Alaska: Alaska's senior population has seen significant growth, increasing from approximately 55,000 in 2010 to 115,000 in 2024, now comprising 16% of the state's population. This demographic shift underscores the need for expanded support to accommodate the aging population.

Washington: In Washington, individuals aged 65 and older make up 16.27% of the state's population, totaling around 1.26 million people. The state anticipates that by 2030, one in every five residents will be 65 or older, highlighting the urgency to address the needs of an aging population.

Oregon: Oregon's elderly population is also on the rise, with 18.63% of residents aged 65 and older, amounting to approximately 789,610 individuals. Projections indicate a continued increase in the elderly demographic, necessitating enhanced support and infrastructure.

Idaho: In Idaho, 16.61% of the population is aged 65 and above, totaling around 314,391 individuals. Notably, rural counties such as Adams, Custer, and Lemhi have nearly one-third of their populations aged 65 and older, emphasizing the need for robust services in these areas. â€‹

Disability Resources

At Impact907, we are committed to advancing disability resources across Alaska, Washington, Idaho, and Oregon. Through strategic partnerships and community-driven programs, we support initiatives that promote independence for people with disabilities throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Alaska: In Alaska, we collaborate with organizations that provide vital services including childcare, in-home support, and veteran assistance to help individuals with disabilities live, learn, and work in their communities. We want to highlight the legacy of Audrey Aanes, founder of Access Alaska, who pioneered independent living programs that enable Alaskans with disabilities to live with dignity and autonomy.

Washington: In Washington, we support projects that offer training, technical assistance, and healthcare research to improve ADA compliance and reduce barriers to care. We want to highlight initiatives like Disability Rights Washington's "Week Without Driving," which raises awareness about transportation and the challenges faced by non-drivers in getting to essential services.

Idaho: In Idaho, we highlight work being done by organizations such as Disability Rights Idaho, which provides legal support and resources to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities. We also support programs that offer developmental disability services for children and adults, ensuring access to necessary support and care.

Oregon: In Oregon, there is limited support for independent living services that help individuals with disabilities to live self-directed lives. Impact 907 supports projects that provide increases in housing, employment, and recreational opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities, fostering community integration and personal growth.

At Impact 907, we believe in building healthy neighborhoods where individuals with disabilities have the opportunity to thrive.

Our Strategic Initiatives

To address these challenges, Impact 907 is implementing the following strategies:

  • Comprehensive Support: Promoting availability of healthcare, transportation, and housing assistance tailored to the unique needs of the elderly and disabled populations.

  • Community Engagement: Collaborating with local organizations and stakeholders to develop programs that promote opportunities to connect and reduce isolation among seniors and individuals with disabilities.

  • Policy Development: Working with policymakers to develop legislation and funding that supports the elderly and disabled communities.

  • Education and Awareness: Conducting outreach and educational programs to raise awareness and promote available resources for elderly and disabled individuals.

A Vision for Strong Communities

At Impact 907, we envision a future where all individuals, regardless of age or ability, have the opportunity to live with dignity, independence, and purpose. By increasing support for the elderly and disabled, we aim to create healthy communities.

Honoring Every Stage of Life

As our population continues to age and as more individuals seek access, supportive environments, our work becomes ever more urgent. We are committed to ensuring that no one is left behind - whether they reside in rural villages or urban neighborhoods across Alaska, Washington, Oregon, or Idaho. By advancing support for care, advocating for dignity, and creating opportunities for connection and independence, we are laying the groundwork for communities where everyone is valued. Together, we can uplift the voices of those who have paved the way - and those who still have much to contribute.
