MENTAL HEALTH

Mental Health: Building Resilient Communities Across the Pacific Northwest

At Impact 907, we recognize that mental health is a cornerstone of individual well-being and community strength. One of our priorities is to address the mental health challenges facing residents of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho by providing accessible services, fostering supportive environments, and advocating for improved resource access.

Addressing Regional Challenges

Alaska: Alaska experiences some of the highest rates of youth and young adult suicide in the nation. In 2021, suicidal ideation accounted for a quarter of all discharge diagnoses for child and adolescent emergency department treatment episodes within the state, marking a 6% increase from the previous year.

Washington: In Washington, 1 in 5 adults experience mental illness each year, with 300,000 adults living with a serious mental illness. Among youth aged 12–17, 82,000 have depression, and 52% of them did not receive any care in the last year.

Oregon: Oregon's youth suicide rate was 14.2 per 100,000 in 2022, compared to the national rate of 10 per 100,000. Additionally, 15% of Oregon youth have serious thoughts of suicide, with 4.5% having attempted suicide.

Idaho: In Idaho, 311,000 adults have a mental health condition, and 26,000 youth aged 12–17 have depression. The state faces significant challenges in providing adequate mental health services, with 10.5% of residents uninsured.

Our Strategic Initiatives

To address these challenges, Impact 907 is implementing the following strategies:

  • Accessible Services: Expanding access to mental health care through community-based programs and telehealth services.

  • Youth Support: Implementing school-based mental health programs and peer support groups to address the needs of young people.

  • Community Engagement: Collaborating with local organizations to create supportive environments that promote mental well-being.

  • Policy Advocacy: Working with communities to advocate for accessible services and financial support that increases funding for mental health services and reduces barriers to care.

A Vision for Mental Wellness

At Impact 907, we envision a future where mental health is prioritized, and every individual has access to the support they need. By addressing the unique challenges faced by communities in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, we aim to build a more resilient and compassionate Pacific Northwest.

Cultivating Healing and Hope

At Impact 907, we believe mental health is not a luxury - it is a human right. In a region marked by both resilience and challenge, we are committed to ensuring that every individual, from the heart of Alaska to the valleys of Oregon, has access to compassionate care and community support. The path to wellness begins with listening, understanding, and acting together. By working hand-in-hand with families, providers, educators, and business leaders, we are creating spaces where healing is possible and hope is restored. Because when we invest in mental health, we invest in the strength, safety, and future of our communities.
